Luca Colli, 2009 and 2014 Elbrus Race participant telling us about another milestone of his speed climb 7 summits challenge – speed ascent of Mount Wilhelm planned on 03/04/2015:
“The Mount Wilhelm with its 4509 mts is the highest peak of Papua New Guinea and then, according to the modern geography of 'Oceania, should represent the continent in all programs including the climbs of the circuit Seven Summits. The Mount Wilhelm (Enduwa Kombuglu language Simbu), belongs to the Bismarck Range, an impressive range of peaks and granite walls that rises above tropical forests, in an area of the world is still wild and little known, if not by the trekkers from nearby Australia .
Due to different geographical interpretations, we can consider 3 peaks as the highest of Oceania:
Mt. Wilhelm (New Guinea 4509),
Carstensz Piramyd (Indonesia 4884)
and Mt.Cook (New Zealand 3753).
To avoid any critic from people, I will speed climb all of the 3 peaks!!
This will become a "record in a record", because I'll be the first climber in the world who have climbed the 3 with a speed ascent. Besides, there's still no speed records on Mt. Wilhelm and Mt. Cook, while on Carstensz Piramyd I hope to equal or (better) to beat Christian Stangl's ascending time.
I feel great at the moment, I'm phisically in a very good shape. My only fear is that we have really bad weather on the western Alps at the moment, and I can't train over 4000 of altitude. I hope to be able to go up next week, just a few days before leaving.”
